Japanese ELO Blu-Spec CD & CD2 Issues
Blu-Spec CD was an audio CD developed by Sony Music in 2008. A blue laser (as opposed to an infrared laser for a normal CD master) is used to produce a Blu-Spec CD master, this meant that the disc structure could be produced much more precisely due to the shorter wavelength.
The disc produced should have less jitter than an audio CD. However, the sound of a Blu-spec CD cannot be better when compared to an ordinary audio CD because it does not contain any additional information.
In late 2012 it was announced that Blu-Spec CD2 had been developed. "Blu-Spec CD2 employs the Phase Transition Mastering, the technology developed for mastering of Blu-ray discs, to further perfect the acclaimed characteristics of Blu-spec CD. Fully compatible with standard CD players, Blu-Spec CD2 completely alters the experience of music"
In December 2088 Sony in Japan issued Discovery as the first Electric Light Orchestra Blu-Spec CD. Out Of The Blue followed in January 2009 and then A New World Record in March 2009
In March 2013 Epic/Sony in Japan issued a 4-album Electric Light Orchestra reissue series featuring albums "New World Record," "Out of the Blue," "Discovery," & "Time." Then in December 2013 " All Over The World - The Very Best Of ELO" was also issued on Blu-Spec CD2
In 2015 Epic/Sony in Japan re-issued ELO albums starting from "On The Third Day" in a mini re-production series of the original vinyl LPs, containing detailed reproductions of the UK or Japan album covers, artwork and inlay sleeves, they were based on the "Re-Mastered" series of CD albums.
Epic/Sony then continued onwards from 2015 to issue all newly released ELO album on Blu-Spec CD2 in the same mini re-production of the original vinyl LPs & covers.

In Sept 2021 Epic/Sony Japan issued 6 new ELO titles and 9 re-issues (with a new OBI strip, but the same Cat Number) on Blu-Spec CD2 as part of ELO's 50th Anniversary. The re-issues are grouped below within the original album issue date.
